If you’ve ever tried using the “Disk Cleanup” function in Windows XP and been completely annoyed with how long it takes to run the “Compress Old Files” step, this article is for you. Just follow the steps below to disable the compression scanning step and have the disk cleanup complete in less than a minute (depending on your hard drive size)

- Open Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> regedit.exe)
- Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Volume Caches\Compress Old Files - Right-click on the “Compress Old Files” folder/key and choose “Export…”
- Save the registry file somewhere easily accessible (probably My Documents) so you can restore it if you need to later.
- Now, return to the “Compress Old Files” folder/key and delete all the values within it. (It should look like the image above)
- Close Registry Editor, open Explorer, right click on your hard drive (or other drive you wish to clean), choose “Properties”, then choose “Disk Cleanup”.
This should make things a ton faster!

Muh. I’ve been way too busy with work related ruckus to focus on my photography hobby. I’d love to spend more time and get more involved, maybe find a group around town (Portland, OR), a local class, or just some sort of inspiration. Flickr has been great for this in the past, but I barely get any time to look through groups and comment anymore.
If anyone reading this has any suggestions, even just something as simple as a cool idea for a composition, I’d love to hear them. Thanks!

The Nokia N95 and N75, among a few other Symbian 60 phones, use a Safari-based browser, and it appears that some apps built for the iPhone work on it. I don’t know if this is cool or rare, but the Nokia nerds sure think so. [ifono]

This guy is pretty fun to read, and he’s got some excellent musical
choices. This genre, in particular, uses Squarepusher (one of my
personal favorite artists since “Go Plastic” came out) as an example. I
could see Aphex Twin fitting in here too.
